Founded by Michelle Faber in 2018, after 10 years of upscale floral work…
Michelle grew up in Arlington, Virginia, and later graduated (cum laude) from Marymount University with an emphasis in fine and applied arts. In 2011 she began her floral design career as an apprentice for Marianne Raub, the founder of the esteemed Helen Olivia Flowers. It was there she learned the trade, began teaching, and took on the role of lead designer. During that seven year period she had the honor of designing for many of Washington's premier events and residences including the Vice President's Residence (the Biden Family,) and the State Department.
District Floral was launched in 2018 to provide more flexibility and balance for family life with her firefighter husband and two young sons. Since then, she has established herself as an accomplished full-service floral designer for all manner of occasions. Her focus is on sustainable, thoughtful, and creative floral design.
Michelle cherishes the close relationships she has built through collaborations with other designers and her local community "I feel that the bonds I've built with other people... working with flowers... cooperating creatively and sharing hard work have been a powerful force in my career and life. Melinda Hunter, a dear friend, and one of the first floral designers I met and learned so much from, she and I always joke that she is my "Flower Mom!" Flowers bring connection in every sense- they merge people and nature, thus creating a harmony like none other." For Michelle, teaching workshops means creating an intimate design experience. "Being present, disconnecting from distractions, and tapping into our senses is almost like playtime or therapy, but you get to bring home flowers!"
And she's venturing outside the box (or vase) with new local collaborations, focusing on floral education & environmentally friendly design... stay tuned!
